Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science, topic 8

Transport in plants

Plants move water and mineral ions in the xylem and the products of photosynthesis in the phloem. This topic covers where these tissues are, how root hair cells take in water, the route water takes to the leaves, and how water is lost by transpiration.

Subtopics

Work through them in order. Each one has notes, exam questions and flashcards, and a PDF of each. Subtopics that are not in 0653 are left out.

  1. 1Xylem and phloem Spec B8.1The functions of xylem and phloem, and where they are found in the roots, stems and leaves of a dicotyledonous plant.NotesQuestions 4Flashcards 5
  2. 2Water uptake Spec B8.2How root hair cells absorb water and mineral ions, and the pathway water takes from the soil through the root and xylem to the leaf.NotesQuestions 4Flashcards 3
